Nestlé Sustainability

In # 8: Sustainability by Grant

Sustainability is a massive topic in today’s world, and this has caused many of the most prominent companies to adopt a sustainability plan or sustainable goals. One of the largest companies with a very well-written out approach to sustainability is Nestlé. Nestlé has come out and said that some of their primary sustainability goals are to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050; this will be done through reducing emissions across the entire supply chain, and to conserve water, aiming to decrease their water usage by 50% by 2030. Additionally, Nestlé is aiming to make their supply chains as sustainable and ethical as they can. This is mostly done through their various green initiatives and sustainable and ethical sourcing of their raw materials. Another large initiative Nestlé is working on is their Nestlé Cocoa Plan. This initiative is mostly aimed at improving cocoa farmers’ livelihoods and ensuring that the cocoa farming industry is sustainable over the long term. To do this, Nestlé has been working with local communities to help farmers with sustainable farming practices. They are also supporting initiatives that are attempting to bolster everyone’s access to education and healthcare. On their website, they have a page where you can see an overview of their sustainability goals, and they even have separate links that branch off into more detail for each of their sustainable topics. These topics include climate action, waste reduction, nature protection, water stewardship, human rights, sustainably sourcing raw materials, taking care of people and communities, participating in ethical and responsible business practices, and public reporting of activities and performance. As you can tell, Nestlé has a vast number of key elements involved in their sustainability program. I believe that all companies should strive, or be required, to set similar goals to Nestlé as these goals should increase Nestlé’s sustainability and ethicalness drastically.
