Grocery planning with Better Bites!

In # 2. COVID, beyond 2023 by Shona

Do you struggle to plan out your groceries? Are grocery stores an overwhelming place for you? Introducing Better Bites! Better Bites is an app powered with AI to help you plan your groceries. All you need to do is input your dietary restrictions, your budget and the number of meals you plan to make.

The app will generate suggested recipes and fill in the ingredients it requires on a list. You can use this list as a guide to do grocery shopping. It’s all of the fun of shopping without the hassle of deciding what to buy and worrying about the price. When you enter your location you also get to keep up with the latest promotions and discounts in the area. Say yes to healthy eating with Better Bites!

This app has the potential to be very successful in today’s post COVID market. During the pandemic, people had time to enjoy home cooked meals since they were home all day. Now, the world has gone back to “normal” but people still prefer eating home cooked meals (Murphy et al., 2020). Unfortunately, there is less time now for them to plan out what to cook and shop within a budget because they are so busy. Thus, there is a gap in the market and an app like Better Bites would bridge this space.

Another reason why this app would be successful is a generation of young adults aged 17-21 who did not have the opportunity to grocery shop with their parents during the pandemic. They are learning how to shop for themselves for the first time at college. They may overeat which is detrimental for their health. This phenomenon is commonly known as the “Freshman 15” in which first-year university students gain 15 pounds rapidly (Mihalopoulos et al., 2008). An app like Better Bites would help them plan out their meals and portion sizes to avoid overeating.
